CHAIRMAN'S
REPORT
The last twelve months has been an exciting period for the company.
The Board has decided that the future prosperity of the company is
with forging closer links with the Local Authority and in Waste Minimisation
Schemes. Several such initiatives have been identified and are being
investigated. All of these complement our existing activities especially
our free scheme and will ultimately allow us to offer a greater range
of goods to people.
In order to accommodate this shift, the Board undertook a comprehensive
review of the Company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association
to best reflect our present and future activities. In particular
we have included as one of our main objectives the improvement of
the local environment through the reuse and recycling of local resources
in order to meet local needs.
A further change to the Memorandum and Articles of Association is
the creation of a new support structure called the ‘Friends
of Grangemouth Enterprises (S &M) Ltd’.
This will allow those individuals, who would like to support our
charity and the work we do, to be affiliated with the organisation
without undertaking member or director responsibility.
I am happy to report that all of the changes were passed at an Extraordinary
General Meeting convened for that purpose.
A further development has been the recent introduction of Customer
Surveys. It is vitally important that we remain in contact with the
opinions and expectations of our customers. The intention of the
organisation is to undertake two customer surveys each year to ensure
that this happens. Feedback from the first questionnaire would indicate
a very high satisfaction rate with the company. Further details on
some of the findings can be found in this report.
During the year there were some staff changes particularly amongst
our management staff. Maureen Ramsay retired after several years
of dedicated service. The Board appointed Pauline Hinchion to be
General Manager. She brought to the company a wide experience of
the Voluntary/Charity sector together with an understanding of community
businesses.
Looking forward to the next year, we hope to undertake a number
of new activities during what will be a period of transition for
the company. However, the Board is confident that we are putting
in place structures and activities to meet the challenges of the
future and ensure the continued progress of the organisation.
In conclusion, I would like to thank the Board members, staff, the
general public and all who have contributed to the business over
the past year for their continued support.
